Why are people defending this man? There is so much evidence against him in official paperwork, people testimonies from his clients, his employees, and even the institutions he worked for AND the vet board itself.
It’s obvious the AQUARIUM won’t admit they hired someone responsible for beating up animals, AFTER the fact. They are trying to cover their ass.
I don't want innocent people to be punished for their actions either, but Sheridan is truly a sick man and is guilty of some truly horrific things, and there are no laws in South Carolina to put him in his place. Did you know that he has called the cops and had arrested several of his customers just because they wanted to see paperwork, or questioned him, not even knowing of his insane background? One of those cases was dismissed and settled only days ago. There are so many complaints against this man, it amazes me he is still allowed to practice.
There is not a witch hunt against him. People's animals are hurt, and they want justice for their loved ones. Sheridan has continued to misdiagnose, neglect, and abuse the animals under his care 'till today, and what's worse, he is now turning on his clients and calling the police on them when they begin to question him. He's nuts, and he has no business in the medical field!! Thank God for people like Toni who are willing to invest a lot of their time, and money to expose this man. Not to mention, have to put up with very threatening letters from his stupid lawyers.
I just moved here from California, and I am on the hunt for a vet for my 2 year old Yellow Labrador, "Max". Folly Road Animal Hospital is the FIRST entry that came up on a google search. The reviews posted there, along with sheridantruth.com have ASSURED that not only will I not take my dog anywhere near that monster, if I ever meet this Sheridan, I will be sure to let him know that the word is spreading and cannot be stopped.
We just took Max to James Island Veterinary Hospital for an exam and heartworm preventative. We met with Dr. Adrianne Sprovero, DVM. It was her first day (not new to the science, just to the location). She and the staff were incredible. They were gentle and caring and treated Max like a prince. Thanks for the recommendation. We listed Toni Zotto/sheridantruth.com as a reference.
To those of you who think this man is a "monster" - Before posting all of this stuff, please go to the same extent in reviewing your own vet's records. Just like human doctors, vets are subject to the same errors...they're human beings just like you and me. You all do know that vets euthanize animals right? that means KILL them. oh, but that's "humane"... You made a website to hate on someone so much? He SAVED my dog, he CURED my dog, Dr. Sheridan is my vet. He is my mother's vet. He is my sisters' vet...all spanning collectively; 15 years. Animals get hurt, things go wrong, and ALL of the content on this site is one sided. Shame on you all.
This man should not be in business anymore. I just moved to the Charleston area, and like the previous lady Folly Road Animal Hospital came up first when I googled veterinarian clinics. I was completely unaware of this man's background and began taking my new puppy there. He gave her her first shots, flea/tick meds, and began treating her for Parvo. I thought this may have been standard even though he ran no tests. He told me if she was sick the next day to bring her back. She did not have the energy she normally did so I called and let them know. He asked me to bring her in that morning and leave her. When I called that afternoon I could hear terrible screaming that sounded like a puppy. I asked if that was her and he said it was and that she didn't like her kennel. He said he had tested her for Parvo and she came up negative as well. Later, after I picked her up, she began wheezing terribly, coughing, and throwing up. I thought because he knew everything that he had been treating her for I needed to take her back to him. He began different treatments.
Each time I went he made comments that were out-of-line and very unprofessional. He would ask me why I was single and always wanted to talk about drinking and going out. I told my family how he was giving me the creeps and making me feel uncomfortable so I quit going there.
My puppy was healthy before I took her there for the first time, and I ended up spending over $300 in a week there in vet bills/medicine. From other vets I realize that the treatment my puppy was getting was unnecessary, incorrect, and a possible cause for her staying sick. I called my mother's vet back home and read the medications off the receipt that he had been treating her with. She was very confused about the treatments and told me I needed to call and explain to them what they were doing is wrong. This was all before I/they knew anything about his history. Today I saw this webpage and was shocked. I knew I had a terrible feeling about this man, but I had no idea people were capable of such cruel things. Looking back I assume that my puppy was miss treated that day. I also took her to the beach one afternoon for a very short amount of time and Dr. Sheridan made me cry saying that I was stupid for thinking she could come in to contact with the things that are on the beach. He made me feel horrible, but he is the one who should feel terrible!! I just cannot believe I took my dog to him. I take her to the James Island Veterinarian Clinic now.
In response to the comment by MO: Sheridan IS A MONSTER!!! Used excessive force on a dog - NOT AN ERROR! Hung a cat by a noose type leash - NOT A ERROR!! Blinded a terrier - NOT A ERROR!!! BOTCHED a spay job - NOT A ERROR!!!! HE is INCOMPETANT - declared by the SC Veterinary Board - TWICE!!!!! Unprofessional Conduct - guilty TWICE!!! Ordered to anger management!!!! The BIG ERROR he made was to misjudge the client that he had arrested for requesting pet records - that client turned around after being found NOT GUILTY and filed a case in civil court and Sheridan settled the case!!! HUGE ERROR!!!!!!!!!! I am thrilled that your pet and those of your mother and sister have not been harmed and hope that continues for you. Others SUFFERED - animals and their human companions! Sheridantruth is about the FACTS - it allows the public to form their own opinion and I applaud it!!!
I previously left out some of Sheridan's former patients: Ande the cat - beaten to death while sedated - NOT an ERROR!! Murray the river otter from the SC Aquarium - died after routine examination and rabies shot - and WHY was Murray transported to Sheridan's office for treatment and not treated on site?? This does not include other victims that filed complaints against Sheridan that were dismissed because they don't meet the criteria of the pathetic laws in SC that are in place for animal protection from veterinarians! Animals cannot protect themselves -they need our voices to speak for them! I have no problem speaking out against Sheridan!
Thank you for keeping this site up no matter how many threats you receive. This "man" has a lot of nerve threatening anybody about anything with his record. I too had a monster for a vet and I will NEVER forgive or forget what he did both to Suki and to me (the little freak sued me for speaking out and tried to get an injunction against my web site and FAILED). And for the "fan" who talked about "errors." Are you kidding me? You need a dictionary to look up the definition of the word "error." The repeated and egregious pattern of some of these "people" has nothing to do with mistakes - it has everything to do with incompetence, negligence, malpractice, and yes, abuse. Count yourself lucky that you are not in our shoes. Our pets paid the ultimate price and those of us who are victims will NEVER stop speaking out. Keep up the good work with this site -- you are saving lives.
This site is totally bogus and many of the stories are just that stories -- complete fabrications. I know for a fact that Dr. Sheridan hired attorneys to go after this site for defamation, but guess what? It's registered in Canada and no one can find the owner. I suspect whoever created this site has never even visited South Carolina, let alone Charleston or James Island.
If this site is truly legitimate, I challenge the webmaster and owner to publish their real names, addresses, and phone numbers. If the information on this site is completely 100% accurate and the truth, you will not mind accepting service of a defamation lawsuit here in Charleston.
Anyway, I KNOW it's not going to happen and my comment will be deleted.
My experieince with Dr. Sheridan was quite different from those above. I met Dr. Sheridan initially three years ago when it was time to say goodbye to my dog Sushi after 16 years. On that day, I found Dr. Sheridan to be perfectly appropriate, professional, experienced and compassionate during this difficult time. He said all of the things I needed to hear and got me through the day. Since then, he has been the vet to two new pets and has acted equally compassionately, appropriately and professionally during our encounters with him. Becoming aware of some of the alleged stories on this site have only furthered my loyalty to him as a vet. Since I will never know what actually happened to these pets, I must go on what I do know, which is that I have had nothing but positive experiences with this practice. I would recommend and have recommended Dr. Sheridan highly to anyone looking for a vet in Charleston and further, recommmend that other authors limit their comments to their actual experience and not allow them to be colored by those of others
I visited Dr. Sheridan's office this past Monday, May 3, 2010. During my wait in the reception area, I noticed a bird cage hanging from the ceiling. Inside was a lovely, yellow lovebird who was scratching frantically at the last of the seed hulls left in the bottom of her food dish. The frantic sound of the bird caught my attention. I have 13 years experience in handling birds and worked for a parrot rescue group in Chicago for 2 years.
I peered into the lovebird's cage and saw she had absolutely no water! and was scratching around for anything left in the seed cup. I was appalled! I went to the front desk and asked about the bird. Was the bird being boarded? What's the story? The bird has no food or water! The receptionist looked at me with apathy in her eyes and mumbled something I didn't hear. I was going to wait in that lobby until the bird had food and water.
The receptionist did eventually fill both the seed and water cups, but provided canary seed to the lovebird and filled the cup to the very top. Inexperienced bird keepers will frequently do this, and then not understand that although the seed cup is full, it is full of hulls -- empty seed shells and no food for the bird.
I pledged to check back in on the bird. I walked in "Dr." Sheridan's vet clinic tonight, Friday, May 7, and up to the lovebird cage. Just as I suspected: the seed cup was full of empty hulls, the rest of the hulls were piling up in a small mound underneath the seed cup, as were the mounds of bird poop; the cage has not been cleaned in at least a month. The water cup had a slime over it, and I could tell it was the same water that was provided, per my request, on Monday. No one had cared for that bird in 4 days.
A vet tech eventually walked up to me and asked if he could help. I said yes. Can you please give this bird some food and some fresh water and why don't you ever clean the poor bird's cage?! He, too, seemed apathetic about the bird's situation and said, "The receptionist usually takes care of this." I waited while he filled the seed cup with actual lovebird seed and changed the water.
After the bird was cared for, I approached the front desk and asked the receptionist if they would like to adopt the bird out. I have three birds at home, one lovebird, and while I do not wish to add to my flock at this time I would help a bird in need. The receptionist said the bird belonged to Ara, who I would later learn through this website is Sheridan's girlfriend, and she did not want to rehome the lovebird.
Although the lovebird's food and water was full, the bird still has mounds of poop and bird seed hulls at the bottom of her cage. Bird poop, if not removed, will mold and emit gases that will cause respiratory distress for birds. And when would that bird be fed again? I can't check on her every day!
I came home and decided to write to "Dr." Sheridan himself. Imagine my amazement when I pulled up my internet search engine and discovered there is an entire website dedicated to documenting Sheridan's abuse of animals! I called Sheridan's office to tell him I had discovered there is a history of his abuse, and that I was going to document my experience.
My conversation began with the receptionist, but once I stated I had viewed this site and was ready to contribute to it, Sheridan was notified and picked up a second line. After going through the scenario and timeline of my visits and my discovery, Sheridan stated that I should, "Never visit his office again," and stated I should never call him again. In fairness, he did also state he would look into the bird's situation.
This has been my experience.
It is not my intention to bring anyone down. I have never known this veterinarian nor his place of business prior to this week, but I will say that what I experienced at this "animal hospital" was very similar to what others have documented on this website.
Long story short, my best friend of 9 years passed away as a result of me taking him there for his yearly shots last year ( I had been taking him to a new vet for the last few years). I will fill you in on the rest of the story when I have more time, but does anyone here recommend an attorney that deals with veterinary negligence. I've called and searched and am not getting anywhere. Someone help please if you have any pointers. Oh, and Mo, I used to think like you...I guess you could say Dr. Sheridan was somewhat a friend of my family's. My mother, and grandmother also took their pets to him. I always wondered why people gave him such a bad rap. He seemed like a nice enough person, but sometimes that's not all there is to being a good vet. The fact of the matter is," MO", he seems to be making very frequent, similar, serious mistakes that are resulting in an alarming number of animal deaths. I did not discover this website until after I buried my best friend, unfortunately. He was perfectly healthy and had never had any major illnesses, and got his vaccines yearly without incident. I will fill you all in on what happened later, but if anyone has any advice or info for me, I am in the process of taking legal action for the situation. I have called and requested my records 3 times and 2x told the receptionist I did not wish to speak to Sheridan ( I prefer not to call him "doctor" Sheridan). He has called me twice. The 3rd time I called I was told he would not release my records until I spoke to him. I told the receptionist he legally cannot withhold them from me and I did not have to speak to Sheridan if I chose not to. I felt he was trying to get me on the phone to get me to slip up or say something that may be damaging to any potential case later on down the road. I wouldn't be surprised as he is no stranger to legal troubles. It ended in them refusing to send the records then switching the story and saying the records are "off site" and they couldn't get to them. AGAIN, if anyone has any advice or knows an attorney I can contact, please help. I recently discovered he likes to have people arrested for "harrassment" for requesting medical records!!!
My husband and I took our dog to his office due to a mass on his right side. Sheridan (I refuse to address him as a doctor) told us it was only a 'fatty mass' and could remove the mass surgically the next morning. NO BIOPSIES were performed. In fact, no lab tests, nothing was done ~ only a visual exam was done. Unsatisfied, I came home and did some research on the internet. Luckily, I found this site and felt so uncomfortable that I cancelled my dog's surgery for the following day. Instead, I made an appointment with another vet for a second opinion. That second opinion turned out to be a shock. They DID do a BIOPSY of the mass and it was spindle cell carcinoma, a very vascular tumor. Even that vet said that they would not attempt surgery and sent us to a specialized oncologist in Mt Pleasant. Sheridan NOT ONLY misdiagnosed my dog's condition, but could have killed him by attempting a surgery he was unqualified for!!! He is NOT an ONCOLOGIST, nor does he have the equiptment to handle those types of cases!!! My question is... WHY is he still in practice??? Doesn't the vet board have enough evidence against him already?? How many more animals will have to SUFFER or DIE because of HIM and his LACK of knowledge? LACK of empathy with animals? LACK of respect? It's been a few months since my dog passed away from the cancer and the other day, I received the WORST email from their office. It read... "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to my dog. Yes, the dog he misdiagnosed, yes, my dead dog. What a SLAP in the face!! I called the office and they had not ONE thing to say to apologize. HEARTLESS PEOPLE!!! That's all I have to say. Don't ever trust a man who has the audacity to still call himself a vet after all he has done to these poor innocent animals. Who will speak for them since they cannot speak for themselves? All I can say now is RIP my sweet dog, RIP.
I took my cat to Dr. Sheridan for a few years and while I though the initial visits went well (he actually diagnosed her with Feline Herpes Dermitius which other Charleston vets couldn't figure out) it was the later follow ups that bothered me. He recomended that I buy a $75 bottle of "something that would boost her immune system" along with Acyclovir. When I returned the following year, he asked me what meds she was on....because he had not written it down. I told him the acyclovir but when I mentioned the immune booster, he told me that she shouldn't be taking it since it could be very harmful to her system and asked me where I got it...Needless to sya I was no longer as impressed and I took my cat to Dr. Patrick's office downtown. I definitely recommend that office!

New article in DVM magazine about "Dr." Sheridan.
WHAT A TOOL. He shouldn't be anywhere near animals, it's obvious he has a serious mental problem.
Sorry, fixed link
THANK YOU!

How can this maniac still be in business? Haven't they revoked his license? I'm sure he's still abusing animals.
I just called to see if his office is still open and IT IS!!!
He even has a website and a couple of dogs. Wonder how many times those poor dogs have been thrown against a wall.
